Factors to Consider When Hosting University Balls

Planning on hosting a party at your college? University balls and parties are wonderful events, as they involve a lot of people looking to blow off some steam and relax after a week of hard work. The good news is that planning a party can be pretty easy, and it doesn’t have to take a lot of work.

Before you send out the invites to your friends, make sure you’ve taken all of the factors below into account:

  1. Guests — If your house is small, it may not be able to hold more than 30 or 40 people before it spills out into the backyard or lawn. This could irritate the neighbors no end, so make sure to only invite as many people as you can keep inside the house.
  2. Uninvited Guests — Whether it’s friends of friends or just party crashers, there are always going to be extra people that weren’t invited – but are there anyways. Try to keep them in mind when drafting the guest list.
  3. Entrance — It’s not altogether unheard of to charge an entrance fee for your party, particularly if it’s in your club house or dorm. You may not want to charge too much, but it’s a good way to rake in enough to cover beer costs and any damage to the house.
  4. Drinks — What kind of drinks are you going to have? If there are going to be minors around, you’ll have to be very careful not to serve them any alcohol. Thankfully, the legal drinking age in Melbourne is 18, so everyone attending your college party should be able to drink.
  5. Serving Drinks — Will everyone serve themselves, or will you have someone tending bar? Self-service is much easier, but it’s also messier. If you want to skip the mess, have someone in control of the keg nozzle to serve drinks with as few spills as possible.
  6. Music — Hiring a DJ is a good way to get solid music, but they can be a bit costly. If you’ve got a DJ friend, you’re in luck. If not, you’ll need to get a sound system and download plenty of tunes ahead of time.
  7. Lighting — Not too bright, but not too dark – that’s the way to go with parties. There needs to be enough light to see by, but not so much that it’s fully bright.
  8. Supplies — You’ll definitely need a lot of toilet paper, as well as Dixie cups for beer. Paper plates could come in handy for snacks, and you’ll want a place where people can throw away their garbage and used plates/cups.
