The school formal is a time of year that everyone looks forward to, as it’s a time that they can dress up, dance, and just let their hair down after months of studying hard. The truth is that high school and university students all need to blow off some steam, and the school formal is a great way to do so.
The theme of your school formal can make or break the event. Here are a few creative themes that you should consider for this year’s school formal:
Black and White — Instead of the colourful dresses, why not go with a much more solemn black and white theme? It will make the event seem much more elegant, and you’ll find that it’s pretty easy for the students to find these colours. Keep the decorations simple, but throw in one splash of colour here and there to make it pop!
Hunger Games — It may sound silly, but having your high school or college kids dress up as the citizens of The Capital from The Hunger Games movies will be a whole lot of fun. They get to wear crazy outfits, paint their faces and dye their hair outrageous colours, and go nuts with their styles. It’s a party you know they’ll love!
Masquerade Ball — Think “The Phantom of the Opera”, and you’ll get an idea of what this party can and will be like. Everyone will be dressed to the nines in their fancy gowns and tuxedos, but they’ll be wearing masks to hide their faces. It’s a fun, mysterious party theme that you know the students will love.
Casino Night — Instead of going with a party, why not hold a casino night instead? You may want to get permission from the parents if it’s for a high school event, but it will be worth it. Everyone can get tokens when they enter, and they can use them to play games like blackjack, roulette, bingo, etc. The winners all walk away with prizes (not cash, but other cool stuff), and it’s a great way to spend a night experiencing something new.
Hollywood Celeb Party — Don’t tell everyone to dress up like themselves, but have them come as a celebrity. They can either choose the celeb that is their lookalike, or they can go with their favourite celebrity. You can roll out the red carpet and make it a night to remember.
Ice Palace — In the wake of Frozen, this theme has become huge. Set up the room with ice crystals (made from Styrofoam), and use bright blue and white light to set the tone. Drift some smoke along the ground, and turn up the A/C for a truly icy night!
