Wedding Planning is A LOT of work!
Here at Red Scooter, we’ve been wedding planning for nearly 20 years, and we know how many little details go into pulling off a successful wedding. If you’re DIYing your own wedding, it may feel a bit overwhelming to do it all. We’re happy to help with your wedding planning for your big day, but if you want to handle everything yourself, here are a few of the tips that have helped us over the years:
Deal With the Big Things First –
The most important things with wedding planning is your your wedding venue, the date, and the guest list. You have two choices for this:
1. Plan the guest list first and find a venue that fits
2. Find a venue you love and create a guest list to match the location’s capacity
Option #2 allows you to set both the venue and the date at the same time. However, you’ll want to have at least a rough guest list so you have a general idea of how many people you’ll be inviting.
Plan Your Priorities –
What are the “must haves” for your wedding planning? DJ? Photo booth? Open bar? Quality food? What are the things you can do without?
Sit down with your future spouse and make a list of the most important things for the wedding. Find the 3-5 items that you both believe are the priority, and set those at the top of your list. Get those sorted first, then find out what else you can fit into your budget. You may have to give up a few things, so make sure you know what matters most for your wedding day.
Get Organized –
This is the single most useful thing we’ve learned through our years of experience with wedding planning. The more organized we are, the less likely details are to slip through the cracks.
For your DIY wedding planning, Google Documents or Microsoft Office may be enough to help you get the job done. An Excel spreadsheet will give you one document to keep track of everything, and you can upload it to Google Sheets to access it via the cloud on any device you want. Use Google Docs to make a master checklist of items you tick off one at a time.
Give it Time –
NEVER rush into making wedding planning decisions! Start planning your wedding a year or more ahead of schedule so you have plenty of time to think through each choice. If it doesn’t feel right, keep looking until you find something that does.
