YOUR GUIDE TO CHOOSING WEDDING COLOURS
Your Guide to Choosing Wedding Colours. There are so many details to take into account when planning a wedding! You’ve got to choose the flowers, the outfits, the wedding cake, the drinks, the music, and on and on the list goes. Who has time to think of what the colour scheme of your wedding will be?
Unfortunately, if you don’t choose a colour scheme, the event could just be one mismatched, confusion wedding.
You’ve got the bold hues, the soft pastels, the bright colours, and the creamy whites, but which should you be using?
THE BOLD
If you really want to go all out and stand out from the rest, you’ve got four traditional colours to choose from: Your Guide to Choosing Wedding Colours
Red
Orange
Purple
Dark blue
You don’t want to go with a bright yellow or pink, as they can be hard on the eyes.
THE SOFT
Why not go with pastel colours? They look great on the bridesmaids, and they’ll make your wedding look so much more like a fairytale. Choose colours like:
Mint
Lilac
Aqua
THE EARTHY
Who doesn’t love simple, earthy colours to make the wedding look classy in its simplicity? You may have a harder time incorporating these colours into the event, but it’s worth it:
Sage
Charcoal
Latte
USING THE COLOUR WHEEL
One thing that many wedding planners use to help you choose your colour scheme is the colour wheel. It’s essentially a wheel of colours, and it will make choosing colours fairly easy. How?
CHOOSE COMPLEMENTARY COLOURS
There will always be an opposite colour for every colour you choose, and those two will complement each other. They’re ideal if you want to create a bold contrast.
CHOOSE ANALOGOUS COLOURS
This means colours that are right next to each other on the colour wheel. For example, red, pink, and purple, or yellow, bright orange, and dark orange are all analogous colours.
CHOOSE MONOCHROMATIC COLOURS
Instead of using many colours, go for different shades of the same colour.
MORE COLOUR CHOOSING IDEAS
Here are a few more ideas to help you choose your wedding colours:
- Use accent colours to complement your primary wedding colours. For example, dark purple will accent blues and pinks nicely.
- Remember, the brighter the colours are, the more drama they will add. The softer the colours are, the more romantic they will be.
- Choose the colours for the women first. Men can always wear ties, cummerbunds, and boutonnieres of your wedding colour.
- Stick to just a few colours to keep things cohesive. Too many colours, and it gets confusing.
- Try to choose a colour that your bridesmaids will want to wear.
